Free Field - a situation or space in which no sound reflections occur.
Resonance - synchronous vibration of a neighboring object.
Healing - the process of making or becoming sound or healthy again.
What is Integral Sound Healing?
Integral Sound Healing uses vibrations, intention, and rhythm to stimulate healing in the body. It balances neurological systems, eliminates chronic pain, and promotes emotional well-being. The modality harmonizes the mind-body-energy field by working with the aura and chakras to redirect and support the energy of the body through frequency resonance. By understanding that everything vibrates and creates patterns, the spiritual power of sound for healing becomes apparent. The pure tones of healing instruments clear the air and release stuck vibrations, while also replenishing depleted energy.
What is Sound?
Sound Waves
Sound waves are vibrations that come from objects in contact with a transmission medium and are perceived as sound. They travel through air, solids, and liquids at different speeds. The human ear intercepts these waves, giving them meaning through auditory nerves, creating the physical and emotional sensation of hearing.
Frequency
Frequency is the rate of changes in atmospheric pressure along a sinusoidal wave of vibration, and are relative to perceived pitch.
Therapeutic sound aids self-healing by inducing meditative states for relaxation, stress reduction, and healing.
It trains the brain to alter neural pathways, promoting physical and emotional health.
Modern science and EEG biofeedback reveal 5 brain rhythms corresponding to varying mental and physical states.
Gamma – 25-100 Hz:
Correlates with transcendental meditation, enhancing sensitivity while operating at a low power rate. It promotes heightened consciousness, bliss, intellectual acuity, stress reduction, and elevated mood.
Beta – 12-24.9 Hz:
Our daily activities and functioning in the world. By working in these frequencies, we can address mental/emotional issues, improve body motion, and enhance our attention.
Alpha – 8-12 Hz:
It's present right before sleep, in the morning, and during light meditation for consciousness re-programming. They connect with creativity, daydreaming, and the earth's frequency. It promotes endorphin release and transformative healing.
Theta – 4-7 Hz:
Promote drowsy sleep, deep meditation, and healing. They access creativity and tranquility, inducing REM dreams, relaxation, lucid dreaming, and astral projection.
Delta – 1-4 Hz:
Deep dreamless sleep is the slowest and lowest, disconnecting us physically and slowing us down for repair before speeding back up.
How We Hear
Four Aspects to Auditory Awareness
1 - Social Awareness influence our behavior and interactions in different spaces. Sound informs and contributes to the overall environment.
2 - Navigational awareness, like echolocation used by animals, helps us navigate through space using sound instead of vision.
3 - Aesthetic spatial awareness shapes our response to space. We appreciate the quality and specificity of sound in a space.
4 - Musical awareness merges sound and space to enhance music and vocal experiences, influencing human response through consonance and dissonance.
Evolutionary Response to sound
Our minds interpret vibrations and frequencies as meaning and emotion. Everything in our world vibrates, reflecting energy and movement. Our brains connect sensations with the energy around us, creating paths of understanding for repetitive vibrations and blocking out unnecessary noise. But when we hear a random sound, we focus on understanding its cause and assessing danger. The sympathetic nervous system, part of the body's automatic response, activates fight-or-flight when we hear loud noises or low frequencies, manifesting in physical reactions like jumpiness and sweating. The absence of sound is noticeable; silence reveals our dependence on overlooked noise. In a soundless room, we notice the quietness and eventually become aware of small vibrations or a faint hiss. Our own breathing or heartbeat may be the only sound present. Without external stimuli, our brain either waits or creates its own noise to fill the void.
Associational Response to sound
Meaningful sounds evoke emotions and impact us physically, unconsciously in the brain. Body language offers insight into people's sound responses. The limbic system controls emotions, arousal, and memories. It determines which emotional aspects we remember. Our memories are linked to sound and music. Associations trigger past experiences and emotions. Birdsongs bring us outside during the day, crickets transport us to the afternoon or evening. Sleigh bells remind us of winter, and leaves crunching take us to autumn. Therefore, we can also feel transported by sound. With subtle sound changes, we can manipulate moods or overwhelm with immersive audio. Both techniques elicit emotional responses. Careful planning and synchronization of sound influence emotions without conscious awareness. The goal is to align sound with client health needs for self-healing.
